Our Workers’ Compensation Coverage is self-insured. The diocese, its parishes, institutions and agencies are provided with Workers’ Compensation Coverage as required by the State of New Jersey. This coverage is utilized when an employee suffers an injury or illness while in the course and scope of employment. This coverage is defined and regulated by the state and covers related medical expenses and compensates the employee for a portion of lost wages.
This coverage provides indemnification for these claims, as well as support and legal representation for the parish in any and all legal proceedings and Department of Industrial Accident hearings. Oversight and supervision of the claims administration is the responsibility of Gallagher Bassett Services, our workers' compensation administrator.
Gallagher Bassett accepts first report claim notices twenty-four hours a day. For information on reporting a workers' compensation claim to Gallagher Bassett, please see the Workers' Comp Claims tab on the left.
In the event of an injury, whether the employee will lose time from work or not, it is imperative that the incident be reported as soon as possible. The law mandates deadlines in which to deny or accept claims. Claims which are reported late may result in fines from the Department of Insurance which would be levied against the insured.
If an employee is injured, take the following steps:
