This section provides information about the Diocese of Paterson's insurance coverage, emergency services for property damage, and helpful links for parishes and schools.
We have a self-insurance program for the following lines of insurance coverage for all parishes, schools, and agencies of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson:
Our self-insurance program allows us to provide insurance coverage at agreed upon levels while purchasing additional “excess” coverage for large unexpected claims such as fires, tornados or other catastrophic or series of catastrophes.
Our self-insurance program means that the Diocese takes responsibility for paying claims under normal circumstances. The term “Diocese” includes all parishes, schools, diocesan institutions, and cemeteries.
Self–insurance programs demands an increased awareness of and responsibility for establishing and maintaining safe conditions and a prompt correction of improper, hazardous or unsafe conditions to prevent losses and reduce program costs.
The benefits are obvious for the continued well-being and safety of the people of the Diocese, the protection of property and the cost of the program.
Rich Ziccardi, the Diocesan Risk Manger, oversees the program. He works with our partners and professionals who have supporting roles with claims handling and risk management. Rich visits diocesan locations and may make recommendations or mandatory corrections to remedy safety situations.
Ken Mullaney, Diocesan General Counsel, handles all legal aspects of the program and settles claims.
